AI is coming for your job (sort of)
A subtle nudge

You’ve heard it before, AI is going to take all of our jobs.
Overblown? Yes.
Untrue? Not entirely…
The point? Regardless of what you do for work, it’s never been a better time to wade into the shallows of the world of AI.
Hello,
Thanks for joining me at AI for Work where I aim to introduce the world of AI and the changing nature of work. All while ensuring the noise is kept to the absolute minumum (a concept which my three-year-old doesn’t quite understand, yet).
Today we’re discussing:
Why AI will displace low-level jobs
Where jobs are lost, new ones will be created
Your first step to futureproofing yourself
Let’s get into it.

Why AI Will Displace Lower-level Jobs
Simply, AI is capable of handling repetitive tasks faster and cheaper than us mere mortals. This means roles that involve basic data entry, simple administrative tasks, and routine processes will be the first to be automated.
The reason is straightforward: cash—companies want to reduce costs while boosting efficiency. No more onboarding, personality differences, lunch breaks, or 8-hour workdays.
Where Jobs are Lost, New Ones Will Emerge
When ATMs were first introduced, everyone thought humble bank tellers would disappear. Plot twist: the number of bank tellers increased.
Why?
Banks could open more branches with lower operating costs, and the teller role evolved with more responsibility resulting in better pay.
History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes. Industrial revolutions don’t eliminate work—they change its nature.
You’re very early to the AI party
With AI dominating headlines, it might feel as though it’s too late and you've missed the boat.
However, the data tells a different story:
Only 1% of companies have reached AI maturity
The lack of AI skills remains a major barrier to adoption
Just 13% of companies use AI for most daily tasks
Let me set the record straight - the mere fact that you signed up for an email like mine means you’re already ahead.
The next step: becoming an AI user.
Homework (1 minute)
“Did this guy really just assign me homework?”
I did. The time for chit-chat is over.
Go to: perplexity.ai (it’s free)
Enter: “How will AI impact the working world in the next few years”
Explore: “Related” at the bottom, click through the sources, and generally explore.
But why Perplexity?
People will argue that you should start with ChatGPT or Claude. But I’ll argue that people jump into these tools, ask a few questions, receive mediocre answers, and are left a little underwhelmed by it all.
Perplexity bridges the gap between Google (the verb) and AI. Its responses are an elegant mix of old and new formatted in a way that is familiar to anyone who has browsed the internet.
Search results and AI neatly tied together = immediate value.
The Bottom Line
AI isn't about replacing humans—it's about augmenting them. And right now, you're standing at the perfect moment: late enough to see what works, early enough to take advantage.
That one-minute homework? It's not just about trying Perplexity. It's about taking something you already do dozens of times a day—searching for answers—and experiencing the AI difference.
Also there'll be a quiz!
(Note: there will not be a quiz).

FACTS TO IMPRESS PEOPLE AT PARTIES
Google was originally called 'BackRub' because it analyzed the web's 'back links.' Thankfully, they changed it - imagine saying 'let me BackRub that real quick.'
But what should we say now? I’ll Perplexity it?
